Co-Winky-Dinks? I think not!
How did our house sell in under ten hours before there was even ink on our listing contract? (Besides having an amazing agent, Bonnie Berry, of course.) And who are the fortunate people who just happened to land at our doorstep in the perfect position to buy our house in under ten hours? Scroll down to find out.
First off, I want to let all of you wonderful readers know that I don’t plan on posting this many times in one week, but since my website took my husband and I longer to launch than we had planned (those naughty widgets) I have some catching up to do. But enough deviating; on to the story.
On Friday, March 31 we had Bonnie over to evaluate our house with plans on listing in the middle of April because of our concern about getting our son through his HS graduation first, which is on May 26th. Houses normally take a few months to sell from start to finish so we believed this timing would work best. But something Bonnie said, “In this market, and at this time of year, listing earlier is better,” hounded us all weekend. (Okay, I’m not sure if that’s exactly what she said, but that’s what my brain heard, so it works for this story. I’m sure she won’t mind.)
So by Monday morning pictures were being taken of our house, and by Tuesday morning, Bonnie was contacting me to see if one of her co-workers could show it to a young military family who had just traveled for the last three days from Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls, Texas with three small children imprisoned in their car. (Correction here: They may have been from Oklahoma, but it still works for the story, so please continue on.) And they only had this one day to house hunt for a home they had to be in by June 1st, which is the husband’s report date at F.E. Warren AFB here in Cheyenne, Wyoming. (Are any of you picking up on all the coincidences yet? My husband and I call them co-winky-dinks!)
Now mind you, we had not officially listed or signed anything yet, but since we were eager to raise the jacks on our next adventure, the sale of this house being our first major step (okay, maybe it was the second major step, but that story is kind of boring, so we’ll start with this one), I agreed to the showing. Although, I was only given an hour to make sure my house and myself looked presentable. The house won most of that time—I’m not sure my hair even got brushed.
But long story short, since this post is stretching farther than I had planned for, I was able to show the house my husband and I had built together 17 years ago, then raised two amazing children within its walls, and loved and cared for one spastic boxer and two long haired divas (cats for anyone who doesn’t know exactly what I’m talking about) to a wonderful family who loved it enough to go back to their agent’s office and write up an offer immediately.
So that night, after we got back our counter offer (because anyone who knows me, knows that’s the way I roll) we signed our forever home away, then signed our listing contract.
Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoyed it.
Lisa
Oh, and by the way, there is a reason I only showed part of the For Sale sign. That story will be coming soon, so if you want to make sure you don’t miss it, sign-up to receive Truth With Humor through the email link to your right, or click the Facebook link. Either one will be greatly appreciated. And if you’re really feeling froggy, you can follow me on Twitter and Instagram, too—just for fun!
