Look at me! I’m riding the waves!
Happy Thanksgiving, Everyone!
I hope you all get to eat lots of wonderful food with wonderful people. We’re spending our first Thanksgiving on the road at the coast. Padre Island, Corpus Christi, TX to be exact. Walks on the beach. Bird watching. Trying to rescue jellyfish without getting stung. Sandcastles. Peer fishing. Working on my book with the sound of the ocean flowing through the open windows—in late November, I might add. And for someone who spent her whole life in CO and WY, this is a big deal! And last but not least, a catered Thanksgiving dinner with good friends right off the beach. This. This is why my husband and I sold everything and moved into our 14 year old, 290 square ft. 5th Wheel. Priceless.
But I don’t want you to think it’s all perfect, because that’s not real life for any of us. The site we are currently on, that looks nothing like the beautiful spot on the beach we reserved online, is a glorified parking lot. A very rundown one. My favorite part is the small patch of grass under the hook-ups.
Our real site is closed due to the damage caused by Hurricane Harvey.
I understand the hurricane part, but they should’ve told us when we called. Although, in the big picture, it’s still worth it. We’re 100 yards from the ocean, and we only have to stay here one week. We were able to get on the local Naval Base for our second week. Life is good. Oh, wait, our motorcycle trailer failed on the 5 ½ hour drive to get here—twice. Which means we came very close to losing the bike and taking out an innocent driver, or many. It’s a big bike!
So see, we’re still normal. Well, maybe normal isn’t the right word. But you get the point. 😉
I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving. And if you ever get the chance, you should head this way. And if you’re feeling the call, sell everything and come join us.
Lisa 🙂
P.S. I couldn’t leave you with that horrible picture above, so here’s one of the attempted rescued jellyfish. Although, I think it’s dead, so maybe it’s not a better picture after all. Oops!
