What does a writer do when she lives at campgrounds?
She makes up stories about the other campers, of course. And who are the other campers worthy of this honor? Keep reading to find out.
First let me start off with a difference between RV Park campers and lake campers—at least from my perspective. RV Park campers love to be social and tell you their life stories, which takes away my ability to make up stories about them. 🙁 But most lake campers want a break from people—you might get a hello from them, but sometimes not—so they’re free game. 🙂
These campers consist of: the weekend partiers, the long-term travelers, and the full-timers. And so far between the two lakes we’ve stayed at, these four campers have been my favorites.
1) A middle-aged women, Moped at the ready, who looks as if she could give any Harley mamma a run for her money, will sleep on the table under a cabana with all her possessions set up on the ledge–which aren’t much. She then rolls up her sleeping bag and leaves for the day. Maybe for a job? Maybe to go (insert crazy theory here). See how fun that was? And yes, she lives this way, we can tell.
2) An older gentlemen who lives in a camper that’s so old, my husband and I have bets on when it will either burn down, cave in on itself, or fall apart at the seams because there’s no life left in them. A gentlemen who likes to ride around on a recumbent bike a wee bit intoxicated. We’ve guessed on the intoxicated part, but the signs are there. And so are the stories.
3) Another middle-aged woman who lives out of her minivan. (I think there’s something going on with middle-aged women. Can’t they just buy sports cars like men do?) Anyway, this lady’s situation and set-up looked so shady, my stories ranged from her being on the run from an abusive husband to on the run from the law. And low and behold, the afternoon she packed up her minivan and left, a local officer drove by. And they don’t come to the lakes unless there’s a reason that’s not lake related, those are taken care of by the Park Rangers. Makes you wonder, doesn’t it?
4) A nice couple who had three big dogs and three cats living with them in their camper, which after I made up all kinds of stories as to why, we found out they were having their dream house built on 11 acres of land so they can homestead and live off the grid. In this case, their real-life story turned out to be so much cooler than my made up ones.
Now I left out some of the more undesirable campers because I like to keep things fun and humorous, but we do have those, too. But that is one of the main reasons we love this lifestyle; if we don’t like who our home-on-wheels is parked next to, we can move to another spot, to another lake, or to an RV park if we are in the mood to be social. (Yes, we can be those anti-social lake campers, as well.)
Thanks for reading!
Lisa
P.S. I didn’t take pictures of these campers because I didn’t want to look like the creepy one. 😉
