Oops, I meant dirty duds! Not dirty deeds!
I bet that misprint made you click on the link didn’t it!? 😉 But…since you did, take a minute to read the rest of the post.
Dirty laundry.
It’s one of the greatest challenges I’ve faced with full-time RVing so far. Now I’m not a laundry snob. Okay, maybe I am a little. Organic soap. Absolutely nothing with scents or chemicals. No fabric softeners. But for this post I’ll say I’m not.
I have no problem going to laundromats, but they are quite pricey. And I found their washers and dryers, even the newer ones, to be rough on our clothes, as in…they ruined a couple of my shirts (and I don’t have many of those to spare living this lifestyle). So I decided to take only our towels and bedding the next visit. But then I was faced with an even bigger problem…the massive amounts of soap residues and softeners that were left over from the other users—both of which my husband and I couldn’t get completely out of the machines. And yes, we tried, with lots and lots of toilet paper. (Hey, it was the only thing we could find!)
Then our last set of laundry we took over to some friends and helped them with things around their house while we used their washer and dryer. I really liked this setup, but unfortunately, we will not always be by friends to do this.
So what’s left for us you ask?…
Yep, you guessed it. Hand washing.
Yes, I really have started to hand wash our clothes. And the towels and bedding will be added once they become dirty again. I just had to become one with the bugs while they were drying.
Now you all might think I’m crazy, and maybe I am to a small degree, but doing things by hand has brought me a new perspective of how truly blessed I am, and has made me feel closer to the other 80% of the world who don’t have access to the amenities that I do. (I guessed on the 80% part. It could be higher or lower than that, but you get my point.)
And I will always be thankful that I am free to be Suzy the Homemaker in any form I choose.
